(typing on Wii)
I accidently click a link on Yahoo! search that caused tons of anti virus programs to appear outta nowhere, nonstop! Then today, I heard this weird unknown sound recording play nonstop until I turned off my laptop. It was saying, "Please go to sleep." Something like that...o_o
I can't afford another computer and I scanned my pc for threats twice. Anyone know this threat?

Hi Flintsk8er. First, don't panic. Rarely will any kind of infestation cause such damage that you'd need to replace your computer, but you may have some work to do in cleaning it up. What type of threat scan did you do, anti-virus. anti-spyware, or both? Here's a few questions to start off.
1. Had you shut off or rebooted your system since the problem started? Sometimes a good power cycling of the system is enough to take care a problem if all it affected was your browser. If you reboot and your computer starts off fine but becomes flaky again when you launch your browser, then your browser is probably infested.
2. What browser are you running, Internet Explorer? Which version? If you're running version 7, there are options to disable add-ins. You can open your browser, go to the Tools menu, Manage Add Ons, and Enable or Disable Add ons. Then you'll be able to look and see if there's anything that looks suspicious that you might want to disable.
3. If you have rebooted and the problem is still there, are you running an anti-virus program? If you don't have your own, you can run a free scan from the web from some of the bigger antivirus vendors. I recommend Trend Micro's, but McAfee has one as well.
Trend: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/?svypg=2&svyt=24618
McAfee: http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp
4. If viruses are detected, the scanners should tell you what to do. If nothing comes up, then spyware may be your problem. I've had to salvage a few computers (not mine, but other people's I know) that would barely run due to being absolutely infested with spyware, which usually came down from inadvertantly wandering into a bad website. Two good anti-spyware products are Ad-Aware Free by LavaSoft (http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php free for home use) and Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html free download). Normally you'll need to run two anti-spyware programs to clean up all the junk. These are the two I usually go with, and they do a pretty good job of getting most of the bilge off your system.
Good luck!

I'd recommend getting "HijackThis!", If you know about computers...you'd know which processes are fishy, and which actually should be running. I warn you though, this is brute force...so it's actually able to disable stuff that windows wont let you disable in task manager.
----
This is your choice if you want to go this path...
If you really need help, go to start, programs, remote assistance, and set invitation, then save as file, then email me the file. (Yes...I recommend adding a password and pm me the password)
This lets me control your computer and take a look. It is your choice on whether I actually have control or if I just see your screen. You can deny control whenever you want.
----
Not that I'm accusing you or anything, but usually the sites that do that are...naughty things.(pirate downloads and..."stuff")

You're right about that, but a lot of times, sites that may do that could be sites that come up from doing something as simple as absent-mindedly typing ".com" instead of ".org" for example, or making a common typo in a well-known URL.
The fact that he's using Internet Explorer instead of something like Firefox, though, also contributes some vulnerability. IE is known to be much more susceptible to stuff like this.
I think Sindel's got the right idea here. If none of that stuff works... Then you may need to take more drastic measures.
"HijackThis!" is the best way to go with how forcefull you are describing the "anti-virus" programs. Don't be alarmed if the program says you have critical viruses...the only virus is the bs program.
Because you didn't install the antivirus programs...I'd consider that brute force on their part. Fight fire with fire...with "HijackThis!".

After the problem is neutralized, I'd recommend the free version of Adaware and Windows Defender(it's good to have more than one anti-spyware/malware), and also AVG Free. AVG is very good and free. When you run a scan in Adaware, you hit two birds with one stone...with each file adaware tests, AVG scans it too.
AVG only uses system processes when opening a file.
(you should already have Windows Defender if your computer gets updated frequently)

1. I restarted my pc many times, but desktop seems to be infected by this adware.
2. I run IE most of the time.
3. My anti-virus program is Norton Anti Virus 2004
4. I will look into those links.
Thanks for the help by the way!

Hmm, Norton. I'd actually advise against using Norton or McAfee. They're not the best programs available, and they may also affect your computer in a negative way. A friend of mine had those programs on his laptop, and it ran incredibly slowly. Once he got rid of those, though, everything ran so much better. I'd second AVG Free for an antivirus program. I have that on my computer, and it works great.
If it is truly Adware/spyware which it sounds like, then the anti-virus programs won't do a whole lot, at least not the commercial ones. They don't generally treat sypware as malicious.
HijackThis! is definitely a good way to see everything that's running on your system and try to isolate the bad from the good. However, it isn't exactly intuitive to use. Generally, tools like Ad-Aware (LavaSoft) and Spybot: Search & Destroy will wipe out the vast majority of spyware and adware. If you run those and you've still got a problem, then you can bring out the heavy artillery (HijackThis!) to isolate the most persistent of infestations.
Be careful when selecting anti-spyware software, by the way. There's a ton of it out there that's "available for download" that is actually Ransom-Ware. Especially if you get a pop-up from your computer saying that you're infected and have to download this vendor's software to clean it. Then you wind up paying for something to remove a piece of crudware that the supposed "spyware" vendor put there in the first place! That's why I recommend Ad-Aware and SpyBot: Search & Destroy. Those two are legit, as is HijackThis! I think there are a few other good ones as well, but those are the ones I'm familiar with. Besides, they're free for personal use which is nice.

Alright, I will definitely check out those recommendations. :)

If you are stuck...you can always try this.
"If you really need help, go to start, programs, remote assistance, and set invitation, then save as file, then email me the file. (Yes...I recommend adding a password and pm me the password)

NOTE: you need to be on your computer as I acess the invitation...
just press ctrl+alt+delete to bring up task manager and look for suspicious processes, then look them up in a program database to see if they are harmful, if so, simply end them.

Great this spyware is causing blue screens...
Been there, done that. See if you can get far enough to download the Ad-Aware and Spybot software, then reboot into safe mode to install it. If your computer is so badly messed up you can't get that far, see if a friend with a computer can pull it down and burn you a CD. Then do the safe mode boot and install.

It's not always that easy...

Flint...I think I should take a look. Try that Remote Assistance thing.

Yeah, I was thinking about safe mode too. Right now I am going to use other pcs/wii and only use my laptop to complete these projects before I start disecting it. (unless if I wait, more harm will come?)

Just save everything you want to keep and do a system restore. You can also make a new partition, move all of your old files to the new partition, and then delete the old corrupted partition. But the best way to kill stuff is to kill the host.
Yes, I will snipe that host. :D

Thanks for all the help by the way, you guys. I appreciate the response from this community. :)

Yep! Just a note: hacking and infections are 2 different things, though sometimes they are linked.
Now kill that computer (system restore)! HEADSHOT!
Or try your luck with spybot.
Yeah, at first I thought I was hacked, but then I realized it was just spyware and whole lot of ads. I have my wireless card turned off for now.

Ah...you resolved the problem yourself. Good job.
That kind of spyware basically is a virus with how forcefull they are. There's trying to sell you something...then there's chaining you up to a chair and locking you a room with a man-eating bean burrito to interegate you to buy. Not cool.
Oh they are selling me something alright...
