In 1942, Red Army soldiers cross the Volga river to aid in defending the beseiged industrial city of Stalingrad against the werhmacht of the Third Reich. The Battle of Stalingrad was arguably the bloodiest battle in history with a staggering human toll estimated at more than 1.5 million casualties. The destruction of the German 6th army at Stalingrad is considered a major turning point in World War II.
